How Are Council Members Elected?

Under NYS law, members of Education Councils are chosen by the PA/PTA officers of every school in NYC. The vote is held online from April 23 to May 9, 2017.

CEC members are chosen by the PA/PTA president, secretary, and treasurer of every school in the community school district of the CEC for which they apply.

CCHS members are chosen by the PA/PTA president, secretary, and treasurer of every high school in the borough where their child’s school is located.

CCSEmembers are chosen by the Presidents’ Council for each community school district, borough and District 75. Each Presidents’ Council selects from among its members a parent of a student with an IEP, who will vote for the members of CCSE. If the Presidents’ Council is unable to identify such a parent, the Presidents’ Council will solicit a volunteer selector among parents of students with an IEP from its district or borough.

CCELLmembers are chosen by the Presidents’ Council for each community school district, borough and District 75. Each Presidents’ Council selects from among its members a parent of an ELL student, who will vote for the members of CCELL. If the Presidents’ Council is unable to identify such a parent, the Presidents’ Council will solicit a volunteer selector among parents of ELL students from its district or borough.

CCD75members are chosen by the PA/PTA president, secretary, and treasurer of every District 75 school.
